Prospective CL buyer. Help on maintenance issues?

I'm in the market for a CL right now and am wondering what maintenance issues you guys have had.

I've owned Lexus, and two bmws, and had an older Mercedes bigbody S420...and I wasn't too crazy about the maintenance on that car.

I was wondering about the myriad of issues, if any you guys have had on your cars. Not just usual maintenance but any breakdowns, and large repair costs etc.

Thanks.

I think you can learn alot by just scanning threads and seeing what people complain about. I love the style, performance, and rarity of the CL and I had both the 500 and the 600 (2003's). I hated the headaches however. I expected some glitches considering all the technology in the vehicles, however it seemed like more often then not there was a message after startup telling me to visit workshop. It really was a downer and I'm not sure I'll buy another Mercedes--especially a car that has that ABC system or an intercooler pump, or keyless go, or......

That being said, as a pilot, I'm picky about maintenance and I don't like it when things break. I may have just had bad luck too....and I don't mean to offend any of the current owners. It is good to have a heads up though!

Ive had my 2004 CL500 for quite some time and have had only minor electrical problems. It had to do with the display in the gauge, but was very minor and covered under warranty. Especially with the 100k, I have zero worries about my car. I would buy from a Mercedes dealer, because I did they offer a ton of free services including a shuttle drop/off pick-up including servicing my car and wash by the time I get back. I'd go for it...

If you are going to get a CL.
Get the latest year you can afford.
CPO or Extended Warranty a MUST.

Here are my top 7 problem issues.
1. ABC pump. Its going to happen in the 1st 25-35K miles.
2. Electrical weirds. Windows and Accesories. Intermittent Events.
3. Let the car sit for a week. Low Battery.
4. Every 20-25K Miles. Tires, Brakes, Battery. Consumables.
5. CE Light/O2 sensors. I have ate 3 of them now in 58K miles.
6. Ball Joint "creek noises". Seems like all CL`s get it sooner or later.
7. Depreciation with the new 2007 model/style introduction.

But its a great looking car. And overall. Its very dependable.
I use mine as a daily driver. Its big, comfortable and quick
for a heavy beast.
Just dont use that back seat much. It is way to small for adults.
But fine for the little kids.

Good luck with your search for a CL. Get the 55 if you can afford !
