dumb question!
I've had my car for almost 8 months now and I still don't understand what the "sport" button actually does. Is something actually happening to my suspension? Does the sport mode actually change the ride because I don't notice any difference from "convenience" or the normal setting?

If you select "C" mode then the car starts out in second gear for gentle starts. Traction and driving stability are improved on icy roads and upshifts occur earlier even when you give it more gas. The engine operates at lower Rpms and the wheels are less likely to spin. I found this information in the owner’s manual on page 163. I drive around in the sport mode, but like you see little difference when switched to the "C" mode.

Thank you, but I wasn't talking about that option. I was talking about the sport mode button on the dash. There is a red light that stays lit when I push the button. I know this option is supposed to do something, but I don't notice any difference.

ABC sport switch
On my 2003 CL500 the "ABC sport" switch changes the suspension from "regular" to "sporty" driving suspension. Your 2004 may/may not be similar.

If he's not talking about the S/C or the S/W button (same thing, 2nd gear start) he's talking about the Sport button for his ABC (suspension, active body control).
It'll stiffen up the "springs" and reduce body roll. Take a few aggressive turns with it off, and then with it on.
