need help with this 03 CL

hey all, i'm new here and i'm picking up this http://www.autotrader.com/dealers/in...tors&cardist=0

its a 03 cl500 white on black

it has a amg option acording to the carfax, and i had a couple of questions

first, this is a amg fitted car, and not just a front bumper and such. it has the sport handeling and braking right?

what should i look for in terms of car wise, should i worry about shoks and what not seeing its from NY?

i'll purchase a warrenty from a friend as soon as i get back home with it, any other tips or recomendations please

thanks in advance

It's not an AMG car, it's simply outfitted w/ AMG accessories. It's a 2003, so the warranty has run out. Is the dealer giving you an extended warranty? If not, walk away, these are expensive to maintain.

I would recommend picking a later model w/ the balance of the original warranty remaining preferably from a MB dealer. You can get great deals on CLs since they depreciate quite fast.

Sharp car!
I love the CL in white.
If this is truely an AMG it is a good deal.
If it is a CL with AMG pkg deal is just OK...work dealer on the warranty.
It does have the kompressor badge on the fender- look at the engine cover-
I seriously doubt that someone would go to the extent of changing that part to fool someone into thinking it is an AMG model. The CL55 (AMG) says AMG right on the plastic engine cover. Maybe you can search the net and see what it looks like. Also the AMG has 4 tail pipes vs 2 for std CL.
If you have ever driven one - you will tell instantly the difference between CL55 and CL500. Good Luck!

What is the VIN of that vehicle? If the 6th & 7th characters are "75" then it is a CL500. If they are "74" then the car is the supercharged AMG CL55 version.

ok this is just a 500, not a 55, the vin says 75

but does that mean its not a compressor engine?

and teh 4 tail pipes that ARe on this car are "added"?

i'm not likeing that idea too much

The vehicle with the "75" in the VIN is not supercharged. The "Kompressor" badges have been added by a previous owner. On my 2003 CL500 I have the "Sport Package CL2" option which includes staggered-width 18' AMG wheels, AMG sculpted front air dam, side skirts, and rear apron. The only AMG lettering on the car is on each AMG wheel. The exhaust tips are oval in design, one on each side.

The only suspension/handling change that I know of when you have the "Sport Package" are the staggered-wheels (8.5Jx18" front & 9.0Jx18" rear. Tires are: 245/45 ZR 18 front & 265/40 ZR 18 rear. The standard version has 7.5Jx17" front and rear wheels & 225/55HR17 tires front and rear.
MB notes the following in their literature: "Z-rated tires are optimized for performance driving and may provide reduced ride comfort, increased tire noise, substantially increased treadware and greater susceptibility to damage compared with H-rated tires."
