Brake Rotor Replacement

Brake Rotor Replacement
MB service is telling me that I have to replace the rotors when replacing the brake pads because the rotors can not be turned. But really, does the rotor really need to be replaced each time new pads are put on?

I did a front and rear brake job and purchased ALL NEW rotors and pads for under 500
Nickel plated Drilled and Slotted front and rear rotors...LOOKS SICK
Akibono Euro pads virtually eliminate brake dust....
overall the car stops better too... or seems so anyway
The ebay store is called V12 brake shop on ebay

If your brake pedal is not pulsating, you should be ok. If you want to test them, you need to check for lateral runout.

No rotor needs to be replaced, but I did it. go to v12 brake shop or v-12 brake shop on ebay... slotted and vented rotors looks sweet and it is very inexpensive... get akibono euro pads they are dustless and do not squeak... also inexpensive

Pulsating is when you have your foot on the brake pedal and you can feel it moving in and out. It's generally more noticeable at slower speeds such as when you are approaching a stop light. What causes this is a warped rotor against which the brake pads are pushing creating an in and out movement of the pedal. Generally, rotors can be turned (trued) on a brake lathe to bring them back into specs. I think I read where MB's rotor cannot be trued. I don't know if this is true or not. Some recommend getting the rotors trued every time the pads are changed but I have never done this.

do you need any special tool to removed the rotor and the housing were the pads set in. And when you replace the pads you can use a c-clap to push back but do you need to loose up the bleeder and master cap

Nope it is easy. Think you need a punch to rempve a pin in the caliper. You also need a torx set of star shaped tips. The rotor is held on by one of these. Get pads from autopartswharehouse
