CL500 Lumpy on Tickover

Hi people!

Any help on this subject would be appreciated, here goes.

I have a 2002 CL500, it's got 63k mileage.

I have recently had a B Service changed the oil and all the filters; fuel, air, oil. However I've got a lumpy tickover. The needle doesn't noticeably move (it stays at 500) but I get light vibrations in the seats. It doesn't do it at speed or a least I can tell. I suspected misfiring so asked my local specialist to diagnose the fault on his WINSTAR (3rd party version of Star Diagnostics).

The system gave a real time read out on the cylinders and also showed some stored misfiring errors on 3 of the cylinders.

I have since changed the coils, leads and plugs. But it's hardly improved.

What now? Fuel pump? Injectors?

Any help or experience in this matter would appreciate.

Did you have the engine/trans mounts checked? Idle roughness on these cars is often, maybe even usually, caused by collapsed hydraulic mounts, which allow normal engine idle irregularities to be transmitted to the body.

BTW, this is an example of why the dealer is oftentimes worth the extra expense over an independent. If it does turn out to be mounts, it would have been the first thing the dealer would have checked.

How many?

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to order the engine mounts and get the specialist to fit them, if it doesn't make a difference at least I know they won't fail later.

How many will I need ... is this the right one -

I'm not qualified to confirm part numbers and I'd advise having the mounts checked rather than just replace. They are hydraulic and the procedure is to confirm that they haven't collapsed or compressed beyond their wear limit. Again, a qualified Mercedes specialist knows how to diagnose bad mounts.

I would definitely have the car check to determine the problem prior to replacing any more parts. As you are beginning to see, you can spend some serious money and still have the problem.
