Steering Wheel Buttons
Does anyone know if you can replace the buttons on the stearing wheel and if it's difficult. I saw that on the Mayback the buttons were out of wood and was wondering if I can put them on my CL, they look like the were the same size.

Mine are kind of sticky and I'm wondering the same. Can the rubbery/sticky ones be recoated?

I was able to find some part numbers, but I have a feeling they're only available for the euro market. Still worth a shot at your local dealer though. The domestic EPC shows the part as invalid, but it's viewable in the diagram. Tell the dealer to change the market category to europe in EPC to be able to see the part numbers.
For a CL500 , steering wheel buttons:
To chassis A032099 or 9/30/2002 - Part: A2208215351
From chassis A024279 or 9/30/2002 - Part: A2208210679
Also, color must be specified.
For the Maybach, interestingly there are no separate part numbers for the buttons. Only the steering wheel, airbag and heating element.
For replacement, I assume it would involve removing the steering wheel, airbag, etc and then replacing the buttons. Both sides are attached to each other at the bottom forming a long, flat "U" shape so it's 1 piece.
Let us know how it goes.

On my 2003 CL500 the "+","-", and phone symbols are located on the right side of the steering wheel. This is the opposite of the image above.

Well i thought id bring this thread back from the dead becuase this is the most extensive discussion i could find using "search" on the sticky button issues our cars are prone to.
I emailed the company mp-design about the current availability of the Burlwood and Carbon steering wheel buttons for our w215's and received no response. So i had a german friend call them and they said they only give info through email...i have no idea why. But at least i knew the company still existed.
So i had her email them and finally they responded saying that they are still available but only in the color Burlwood(our steering wheels color). So im like wow thats great! Heres the kicker, the price shipped to TX for the set of 4 buttons is 478 Euros which currently equals $663.70!
I reviewed the info with my friend multiple times thinking there must be some mistake but she assured me this was their response. I even gave her the part numbers from their website. Now she is not a "car person" but i was extremely precise with the information and how to ask about the price and availability of the product. So who knows, maybe something was lost in translation...but if not then i guess they are just really proud of these buttons!
Needless to say im not spending that kind of dough for buttons, but i just wanted to share my findings with everyone. I will call the dealer tomorrow to ask the price of a set of stock replacement buttons for the CL but if anyone knows of a cheap online OEM source, has part numbers, knows of replacements or recoating options for the original buttons, etc...id love some input.

With sticky steering wheel button issues, I did some research on the forum and found that WD-40 is the most effective agent for remedy.
Supposedly, these buttons are covered with some kind of protective film that's prone to melt in hotter temp. WD-40 removes the film and makes these buttons feel brand new again. At least that's how mine look/feel like after I was done wiping the sticky stuff out of the way with it.
Good luck!
