IM TORN...

Hello All, Im new to the circle so I apologize if this is a repeat.

I own a CL550 and I just ordered a brand new set of 22" forgiato wheels and pirelli tires (specs and pic below). I have the mercedes dealer (they are putting the wheels on) telling me it will mess with the suspension and of course forgiato telling me otherwise. Can anyone speak from experience? I am all ears as these are NOT CHEAP!! --R

SPECS:
22" Vizzo Satin Finish, with High Polish Lines, and Chrome Bolts and Chrome Lips.
245-30/22 295/25/22 Pirelli, install, balance all four tires.

the point i am making is that stock for the CL500 is 17 or 18 and I have 19 and the suspension has not been effected one bit by the change.

What are the offsets?

22s are a large wheel, I have 20s on my car and I'm lowered. I've heard that lowering puts more stress on the suspension than adding wheels. But they are probably telling you that because of the size

I do not plan on lowering. To do that I am told that it would require filing down "the knuckle joint" (??) and THAT could potentially create suspension problems. --R

Not to make your decision any harder, but huge diameter wheels like those at stock height might look a little funny. There are plenty of ways to lower and I don't think there is this well-known problem that lowering damages the suspension, so I would at least consider it.

I think you are really going to affect ride quality with those big 22's I have 20's on and its not lowered, yet I will rub if I hit a substantial bump. 20's really fill out the wheel well nicely. Can you get that in a 20 and lower the car slightly? It would look so classy and sexy.

That car is probably lowered 25-30 mm.
