Downsized to '02 CL600

Economy has me in the crushing vise so I sold three cars and downsized into a mint one owner 2002 CL600. Has some warrantly still left so I'm safe for a while. I will only put about 4k miles a year on the car so I hope it won't need too many repairs. Incredible entry price for such a car! I love the unusual look of this car! I won't say what I paid but I can only say that one bright spot of this rotten economy is that truly great cars can be had for a fair price. Didn't need or want turbos and it has plenty of quiet power. Going to keep just one Porsche, one Escalade and one Mercedes now (all older models). Downsizing actually feels pretty good!

Downsizing is only good if its by choice.

Yeah and to a certain extent. Downsizing from a Benz to a Scion or kia... not so good.

I guess I meant to say that it feels better to not have to take care of quite as many cars. Didn't want to go the route of having a car payment (haven't had a car payment since I was 19!) so the '02 was the vintage of choice. I really wanted the $44k CL65 I drove but didn't want to spend more than double for a car that's only subtly different. I rented a Hyundai recently - jeez what an atrocious car!

Ya, payments are a killer. You made a smart choice especially with the way things are, and IMHO, things are not going to get better any time soon. $44k for a CL65?!?!? That's scary, I feel bad for my friends dad who bought one brand new back in 05. Yeah, the 65 is not worth it in my opinion. My ideal choice would be a 03-06 CL600, with the TT engine, sick. Wish I cashed out when I had the chance , just glad at least the dollar is bouncing back over the other currencies and gas is almost under $3 in L.A.

The CL65 is still for sale for $44k if you know anyone now that I'm out. It's black.
