hello all, kida new, need advice

hello guys and girls, imkidda new here and i want to say you guys got some hot rides wow. i just brought 4 months ago a 2001 cl500, and it had lambo doors on it(pain). got it for a steal. had to do some work on the doors. anyway. i have some questions and opinions bout something. i dont see many with 22's on there car. i have a chance to get some 22 inch used asanti 133 for 1500 rims and tires. im only considering because of it value of alil more then 1500(lol). they came off a 03 s500. now they were specially made they have 245 30 22 all they way around but the front rims have a 2 inch lip and the back have a 3 inch lip. the rims are the same size all the way around. so u can rotate. it will look funny with the bigger lip in the front but it is what it is. for even tire wear. sooooooooooo, i just want to know what you think? any problems i may have. its not my daily driver. do i have to raise the car, or just bolt and go? i know the s and the cl can swap wheel/rims. thanks all will get some pics up. i thinking bout getting them tomm. my car color is horizon blue. thanks thanks. im

CL500 and ML55
I would not go any larger than 20"...even with 20's you need to be careful of potholes.
I have a nice set of Baccarat Mirage DK2 x 20's with Faulken tires used @ 1000 mi. if you are interested. These look really sharp on the CL- I got a lot of compliments on them.

it would look ridiculously goofy.

dont buy something unpractical just because the price is nice.

many other rims could be had for that money.

Well, you said that the front rims have 2" lip and the rears have 3" lip, and you think that you will be able to rotate rims for even tire wear, but I don't think it'll work out. They may be the same size, but they will have different offsets to accommodate the different size lips. Most likely, the rear rims will not fit on the front due to the larger brakes, but you can always try, I guess.

As far as putting 22" rims on a CL goes, it will look pretty ugly. If you want that style, get a Chrysler 300M and put 22s on that. The CL is a classy car and putting huge rims on it will only take away from the image it was meant to create. If you want to be a 'baller' then by all means go for the 22s, I don't think you'll have a problem with fitment, especially since we have the adjustable suspension. The only problem you may run into is bending your rims. I'm riding on 18" AMG rims and the ride is pretty rough in ABC sport mode.

I guess the whole point of putting rims on a car is to make the car look better. If you have to raise your suspension to make the rims fit, it'll make the car look goofy because it'll be raised up really high. You'll have a lot of fender gap on huge rims.

CL on 22s

Pimpin ain't easy.....but it's necessary,
So I'm chasin' hos, like Tom chases Jerry!

Forget about the 22s with the big lip. Unless you want to give ppl a laff!
CL500 IS BIG PIMPIN'. No gaudy played out high-chrome rims needed. Real cachet comes when the car remains stock, as sold from the MBZ factory.

Be a pimp, not a simp!

wow thats funny. its amazing of the different taste across the country. its like ur guys are my buds and were wheel shopping. i do appreciate the comments. ill keep shopping. i still think the 22's would look nice. i dont think the will be bulky because the are 8j all the way around. dont you think it wont have the bulky look with 8j, instead of 9, 9.5, 10, and 10.5?

I am more into sporty rims rather then bling for the CL. I think it complements the elegant elongated shape very well. See attached the kleeman 20 inch rims on my car.

These are nice. I would prefer a different finish though, not chrome looks cheap and florida-ish

Yeah, seriously, my rims are chromed too, but my excuse is that they are authentic AMG rims and the previous owner had them dipped. And if anything, 22" rims would look only more weird if they were only 8" wide, it would be tall and narrow. At least wide rims look aggressive.

Kev, I agree. Bonafide AMG rims with chrome is still authentic Mercedes-Benz. Size does matter and more is not always best.

Tony, I like this rim! Big enough face to hide your calipers and rotors, but if you go too big, the car might look goofy. So use good taste.

Personally, I wouldn't go larger than 18"s, because I LOVE the ride quality of a Mercedes.

Get it in 19" max. 20s may work, but may mess up the ride.

It is a Mercedes-Benz after all.
Remember, pimpin' aint easy!
