2005 CL600 Starting Issue

I have a 2005 CL600 that has developed an intermittent starting issue. Occaisionally, when I put the key in the ignition and turn to start, the starter does not engage even though all electrical items seem to be working. If I wait or pull the key out, and try again, it usually then starts fine. Doesn't happen all the time, but it is happening more frequently. I have replaced the batteries in the key and that hasn't solved the problem. This car does not have keyless-go. Any ideas on what is the problem? Of course it never happens when I take it to the dealer. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have the same issue with a 2001 E320. Would be interested to hear if your issue is diagnosed.

Thank you for your reply. When i read the posts for CPS issues, the cars will usually still crank but not start. My issue is the car will intermittently not crank (usually first thing in morning) After multiple turns of the key, it will eventually crank and always start. Is this similar to your issue??

thank you

In past Merc's with similar simptoms, it was a sign the car's battery needed to be replaced. It could also be a corroded ground.

Having this same issue. I thought it was the ground on my starter not contacting and my mechanic friend and I tightened it. Then at MIR I was staging and the car just wouldn't crank at all. Everything worked. Even the torque app was talking to the ECU but the car would not make an attempt to crank.
