Console Trim

I have a locked in park situation on my '02 CL500 and in trying to repair this, I'm attempting to remove the 2 top pieces of the console. I have gotten the shifter cover off and am now trying to remove the wood cover that sits atop the console. I've seen some advice here that says it lifts right off after the shifter cover is removed. Mine is firmly attached and I don't want to break it. Anyone know how to do this?
