registration typo
after registering this 2006 cl55amg today, returning home, i noticed that the clerk had made an error, identifying the car as a c55.
would you let that ride? or would you go back and insist on a correction?
personally, i am of the mind to go back and insist on a correction.

I would definitely get it registered properly. If you don't, it could cause problems when you sell it. Myself, I would not purchase a car with a different model on the title.

i learned that the problem is a little bit odder than that. seems that the model # for a texas registration is printed based on the vin #. vin # entered, the texas motor vehicle computer returns a year, manufacturer, model, style designation.
apparently, some programmer at texas dmv failed to enter the correct designation. and this will be a tough one to resolve.
i think that there were no c55 models for 2006 year, by the way. vehicle is clearly a cl55amg. and the insurance docs, and all the sales docs identify it as such.
as does mbusa when the vin # is given.
how does it go, GIGO. garbage in, garbage out.
correcting the model designation may take more time than anyone has.
before i proceed further, i am going to ask my local dealer what they think.
will let you know.
this modern world...............sigh.

it is even a little bit crazier than that. it would appear as if a model number on a title is immaterial.
consider the state of california certificate of title for this vehicle for instance. it cares only to note model year, make, and body type model. so this CL55AMG is identified only as "2006 MERZ CP".
in texas, though, there is a space for model, space for only three[3] characters is allocated. in this instance, the computer decided that the relevant three characters were C55. otherwise, it would have been CL5. which would also be confusing, because checking the title for my 2006 CL500, that is what the computer selected to identify it - CL5.
at the end of the day, if there is ever a future purchaser they are either going to have to rely upon either the vehicle decoration, or vin # information from manufacturer, or there own knowledge of what the vehicle is.
