Double Din unit in 2002 w215?

Hi
I'm desperate to find a solution - basically, I want to be able to instal a double din unit in my 2002 CL55 AMG (with the 3 piece nav / radio) is this possible? does anyone do a conversion kit for the dash, I;ve seen them for the facelift version, but not this one???
Thanks!
Chris

You probably want to try swapping the wood cluster for the newer version. Or would need to cut the wood and install a custom spacer and bracket.

Thanks saintz - Any idea where I can get the newer version, and is it a straight swap?

Check eBay. You should be able to find the console.

As for the swap, not sure. I would imagine that the only difference is the COMAND cutout, but knowing Mercedes, it's impossible to tell with trying (or finding someone who has tried before). They look identical, otherwise, to my eye, so I would say there's a good chance they swap. If you cut yours, you might be able to find a professional shop to do it. Or, you can cut it and then wrap all the wood trim in vinyl (carbon fiber, aluminum, etc.). That way it's less important how you cut it, as it will get wrapped.

I've put the later Comand 2.0 16:9 into my 2000 CL but modified the wood surround. It's quite a job as not only do you have to widen the aperture you have to also fill in the open areas that the 16:9 unit do not cover; these will have to be built up with fiberglass and filler. Once done the surround can either be painted or covered in vinyl, I covered the top half down to the bottom of the Comand with black carbon vinyl.

I could have used the later '03 wood surround but I have distronic buttons on my existing surround and I've never seen any on eBay that have these, must be a rare optional extra! Using the later style switches also is an unknown as I'm not sure the electrical sockets are compatible with the earlier switch plugs.

My TV button is enabled as I used to have the analogue 4:3 TV connected to my UK/Euro Comand 2.5, I have disconnected this running a TV-in -motion adaptor in it's place connected up to a DVD/MP3/Aux player. Connected to the DVD unit I have a digital TV receiver and an Alpine DVD sat nav. The TV-in-motion adaptor also has a reverse camera attached which overrides video signals while in TV mode.

There is a super-easy way to add ANY Double-DIN head unit to a W215. Company called CARAV makes two different trim panels, one wood grain (Carav 11-409) and one black (Carav 11-134). Both run about $30 and are available on Amazon and eBay. I have used both and they look pretty darn good IMO. You can put in a $110 head unit for music and Bluetooth phone, or go nuts with Navigation, DVD player, etc etc.

I got my Pioneer head unit from Crutchfield and they included a wiring harness. You'll need a 5-channel amp (goes in the factory location with factory wiring) and a better sub. There are also modules available to incorporate the steering-wheel controls.

looks great but only works with the facelift dash not the old Comand unit

Trying to put a Pioneer unit into my 2004 CL55. I have the adapter plate and think I have all the wiring harness adapters. Anything else you can share on making it a successful installation? I have the old unit removed and there are only 2 fiber lines and 3 wires that were plugged into it. I am tracing these 3 wires... is that were I can find an "interface" unit? I am lost at the moment.
