Looking for a W215 CL500...opinion on these?

Hello all

Long time lurker, rarely a poster. I'm in the market for a W215 CL500, probably a 2000-2003 with around 100k miles as I'm not looking to spend much more than $13k.

I own a '93 300SE (290k miles), a '93 300E (will hit 270k miles on the drive to work), and a '98 E320 (210k miles). The CL wouldn't be driven more than twice a week, so I figure 100k miles is nothing haha. I imagine most of my expenses would come with repairs, as my S has been pretty expensive to maintain.

Anyway, I contacted Bruce at Becks Imports and I've also come across these two cars on Autotrader. Do you think they'd be worthwhile to pursue? I'd like to have the AMG kit, but I can live without it.

Also, I'd want my mechanic in PA to take a look at the car before things are finalized (I've always bought locally before). Is that going to be impossible, and should I just get a PPI instead?

Thanks for the help

Agree, the one with the sport package looks slightly cleaner, but it's hard to tell. Find out if the wheels on that one are real Brabus, if nothing else the wheels could be worth a few thousand. Also, some people are dead set on the AMG sport package, so that will make it easier to sell later and you might get more for it.

Bear in mind that the light interior shows wear more than the dark interior, so on a higher mileage car you will notice it a little more. Still, both of those look clean inside.

The market for these things is hard to figure out. I suspect a lot of folks are afraid of considering/buying an AMG, particularly a blown version, as they suspect they have been abused and owned by leadfeet. Some dynamic like that has to explain the incredible depreciation. Of course there is always the average cost of repair at the dealer. That alone probably runs a bunch of people off. But, like a manual Corvette, even though they are in the minority and owned by leadfeet, some folks just have to have them. Like a house with a pool. It runs off some but attracts others.

I always evaluate the overall condition of a used car by what the interior, and particularly the driver's seat, looks like.

i have a 2006 cl500. and a 2006 cl55amg.

in many respects, i prefer the cl500. i prefer the seats. and the steering wheel. and the fuel economy.

if you do it, try to get a benz authorized extended warranty. when things break, it can be very expensive.
