Carfax Concern???

Hi Guys,

I am looking at buying another CL500 (2004). I have a copy of the Carfax report and wanted your opinion on something.

This is a 2 owner car manufactured in 9/2003.

On the Carfax report date 6/30/2006:
Transmission Removed to Complete Repair
Computer Checked
Transmission Replaced
Alternator/Generator Replaced
Oil/Filter Change Chassis Lube
Transmission Checked
Maintenance Inspection Completed

My question is......Does this sound the the transmission went bad and was replaced? If so, should I be concerned.

The car seems to have been serviced on schedule since then.

Thanks for your input.

John

I personally would have the car thoroughly checked out by MB or a reputable indy before purchase and let that guide you to a decision. Since you already own one, you know the cost of maintenance so you don't want any surprises. I doubt you would be able to get a decent warranty with the car being this old.

Just my .02 but if the transmission has been working fine for 5 yrs its probably ok. I suppose you could ask for all the records and have a MB inspection done just to be sure. But they might just tell you that there are no transmission codes on the computer at this time. That certainly isnt a gaurantee of anything.

Why not get a cl600?
