thanks.
Just like I said in my earlier post. Don't even try wasting your time cleaning the buttons or do any DIY. Get new buttons. I bought them for $156.

Might be able to give us a call and speak with a specialist that could advise you on if removing the buttons without take the steering wheel off is possible.

You do not need to remove the steering wheel. However the Air Bag module does need to be removed. Then you need to unplug the two connectors. The buttons are mounted on the Air Bag module.

You do not need to disconnect the battery. Just make sure key is out of ignition.

Buttons

So... everyone has gummy buttons?

I thought someone put some kind of preservative on ours causing that gummy feeling.

They aren't really bad, and still look good.

Are the replacement buttons of better quality?

I have the same issue w sticky steering wheel buttons on my '03 CL55. I've considered ordering new buttons but am going to look into this as a viable (and less costly) option. www.stickynomore.com. Has anyone used these guys ?

Thank you very much op for this. I used some hand sanitizer to clean the gummy crap off the buttons on my S430. It worked beautifully on the LH buttons but unfortunately worked too well on the RH. Will be following your detailed instructions to replace.

I ended up removing the sticky residue with nothing more than a good car wax (Zymol). Start rubbing it on with just a finger. Keep rubbing and the residue starts to dissolve. Wipe clean with a soft cloth and repeat until there is no residue. I had the car for about another year and the residue never came back. The buttons still looked and felt new.
