what a dilemma !

so my recent aquisition was a 2004 Cl600 W215 ... coming from the land of V8, the V12 Twin Turbo was such a revelation ! the car now has 48K miles on it , service A , tranny flush, couple of ABC Hoses, both coil packs .. that what I had to do for the car so far , so except for the time where it was in the shop , the beast is simply awesome ! THere is something intoxicating about that cruiser even without doing any modding to it ...... NOW I am drooling over an 06 CLS55 fully Renntech'd out headers, exhaust, brakes, ECU, IC and I think TB ...( I think that thing is pushing 600HP ) while I always thought that the W215 body was gorgeous , I have also admired the CLS ....and now I am deciding between the two !! I am terrified that I will miss the V12 awesome power .. and I know that sound wise it is rather Docile/ sleeper compared to the famous S/C V8 ... the only thing with the Renntech car is that I will not have to do ANY Modding , having done that for years on many MBs , given family time needs and so on , it is a plus !
I cant have both ...not if I wanted to wife to keep talking to me !! So there is my dilemma .. if anyone wants to chime in with opinions .. by all means !

ECU tune is not very expensive on the CL and will yield over 625 hp and 700+ lb-ft of torque. The V12 powerplant is amazing and can be bumped to 800 to 1000 hp with modifications from Speedriven.

The CLS55 may prove to be more relaible since it does not have ABC suspension. It also has usable back seats and 4 doors. The CLS will hold its value a little better

Unfortunately, the CL has a horrible reputation for maintenance issues as you have already noted in your post. The issues will not go away and will keep costing you big money in the years to come. I like the CL better but it only matters what you like and fits your lifestyle. I got rid of my CL600 to get a GL since I needed a bigger family car.

Thank you for chiming in .. yes I did speak with Marcin / speedriven .. what a nice guy .. sadly right when I was ready to send him the ECU , the CEL went on , first they said it was random misfire .. then it took forever .. ICM was changed , so was the Fuel pump .. fuel controller , both coil packs , sparks ...
then two ABC Hose burst .... all got replaced ....Thank god for the Fidelity Platinum warranty ... so on one hand I know that car had some main issues taken care of.... As for the CLS if it was just a stock CL55 I probably would just wait for the Twin Turbo ones when they come down in price ...but a Renntech one with what I think almost everything Renntech has to offer .. thats a tough one ...
To make matters worse , I have yet to drive the Renntech CLS55, nor a Modded Cl600 !

A tune alone on the 600 will make more power than a fully modded 55.

A tune and some minro exhaust work on the CL will make it a monster in both power and sound. The CL sounds really nice too.

Keep in mind you can not warrant the CLS due to the mods, while you can sneak by with the CL. That being said, the CL needs a warranty much more than the CLS due to the ABC system.

If you need the back seat/four doors and/or are in love with the CLS, then go for it. To me, the leather everywhere interior of the CL and the monster V12 make it more attractive to own, as long as you have a warranty.

Sanitz I totally agree with you , if I didnt have my doubts I would have posted about that subject .. As little of miles as I have on the CL600 ( 48K ) , I am beginning to wonder about how much it will depreciate in value .. do I love it ? Heck yeah ...do I miss throwing a car around as opposed to the heavy cruiser the 600 is ? Yes ...like I said previously I wish I can keep both !
