V12 cylinder shut-off system
Anyone know how this works, how well it works, and the exact numbers of feul consumption?
The system shuts down the driver side bank when the car is at highway speeds and the transmission is in drive. It is extreamly hard to detect when this happens (I have tried).
I do a lot of highway driving. The combination of Active Cylinder Control and Distronic (microwave guide cruise control) gets me 24 mpg at around 75 mph.
I assume you are aware the MB discontinued the system when they installed the turbos

Can anyone confirm this??? That the cylinder shutoff doesn't exist on the BiTurbo cars?
Correct. Pre 2003 600's W215/W220 (CL/S) has the auto cylinder shutoff. With the move to Bi-Turbo this feature was removed.
