disabling the door open chiming

i have had this done.

any easy way to do this?

i hate listening to that nonsense when i have the doors open.

with keyless go, i am not going to lock my key in the car. the chiming is not a reminder.

it is an annoyance.

Keyless Go cars chime for like a minute before it finally turns off.

i haven't checked how long this loud, obnoxious chiming persists. ten seconds is too long, in my view. i think my deceased indy benz mechanic disabled this for all my benzes. now i have ac

acquired another 2006 cl500, and it has the most obnoxious chiming. loud. benz dealers don't seem to want to do this disabling, so i wondered if it was as simple to disable as it was on my some of my other cars, where the chime was disguised as a relay on the relay block. all you had to do was remove that false relay. silence, blessed silence.

Most of these chimes can be disabled/changed via STAR DAS. Thats the only way.

well, clearly there is more to this than is recognized...

my friendly dealer was unable to disable this chiming via star das. said that they could not decipher the german instruction set.

ok. so this meant that it was my indy dealer that disabled the chiming.

i talked to him this evening. his recollection is that all my benzes have an underdash speaker for this chiming. and all he did was disconnect that dedicated speaker[i.e., no more chiming]. this speaker has no relationship to the sound system[s].

sound about right to you?

The chime in the W215 is a micro (piezo) speaker that is attached to the instrument cluster if I remember correctly.

I would have the pull the cluster to look and verify.

Alternately, I can load up DAS and list the menus/options to set the cluster to ROW (Rest of World if memory serves me right) which will disable the repeated chime.

The chime is connected to the cluster. That's correct.

well, my dealership friends have become scared to disable this chiming. seems that disabling the door open chiming doesn't bother them, but the seat belt chiming does.

so, i suppose that the best fix is to take the car into my indy mechanic and have him do what he has done to all the others in my collection, disable the chiming[for all reasons] by disconnection.

sound like a good solution to you?

ironically, this sugarland dealership that works on all my benzes has never raised an issue about the disabling of this chiming on all my other benzes. hmmmmmmm.

You have two options..

#1, recode options via DAS to change the chiming for the items that can be coded and changed

or

#2, render the cluster speaker inoperative which means you will receive no chimes even upon error, malfunctions, etc.

I'd opt for #1.

well, if my dealer cannot decipher star daz, then that excludes that option.

and pray tell, why do you think that it is the worst idea to disable the speaker?

what good does that chiming perform?

what warning beyond door open, fasten seat belt does this chime bring to the party?
