It's driving me nuts and it's a short drive to nutville for me...

Let me know if your issue gets resolved.
I have the same on my recently bought CL 55 AMG.
I have checked all rubber things on the underside of my car with a MB mechanic. We tested each connection with a metal bar and they were top notch. Then we identified that the sound is coming indeed from the top end of the strut.

We have a ABC specialized company here in germany who do nothing else but ABC repairs and part overhauls. I phoned them and they told me, either its that the rear strut which is producing the knocking sounds has come loose on the top end, or its the rubber bushing inside the very top of the strut that is broken (they say common issue). They can fix it for me for 200€, which sounds reasonable if everything else is good.

Thanks for the info, that's what I'm going to look at next. I just changed my lower control arms in the front as well.

Hi,
Do you have a name or a website for the company in Germany? Any info appreciated.
Thanks

yes, I had an indy mech show me with a long pry bar under the wheel, moving up and down, that the rubber bushing at the top of the front strut had separated and that I would need new struts installed to fix it. The rubber bushing was an intergrated part of the strut. so 300 euros sounds like a deal to me.

strut mounts

ctravis, that's a generous offer.. thank you . when the indy mech did a parts snoop, he found no such repair part. Only the entire strut itself. I've attached a pic for clarity. the part I mean to describe is the black rubber strut mount at the top of the strut just under the three threaded mounting studs. The conical black rubber thingy. you have a pair of these?

I'm
Getting a quick red abc warning flash when I go over pothole or bump on the freeway, just for a nano second - you can barely see the message before its off again .

My ride is firm, not bouncy
Fluid is full

Is this a bad accumulator issue ?

Yes, sounds as if one of your accumulators has ruptured. Verify and if this is the case replace both.

Hi,
I have a clunk noise coming from the back suspension but it doesn't seem bouncy. From reading this thread i think it could be some bad strut? what happen to replacing the upper strut mount ? it is possible or you need a new strut. I may have to check my rear axle pressure reservoir just to make sure that's not the issue. However when i do the bounce test, it seems to bounce one or twice and same result if i test the front or back suspension. It also does not ride like a old Cadillac. Let me know if you found a good way to replace the struck black rubber bushing mount like you describe.
Thank you

Ciao

Hi There. I have the same problem with a "clunk" at the bottom. I took the shock loose from the arm below (Crap screws) and indeed that "Flexible Joint" has play up/down. I confirm you need the whole thing as that "Flexible Joint" is pressed in. I also noted the Plastic shroud damaged on the top of the shock (I fixed the shroud to project dirt to go in there) and the rubber where the shock "Piston" rod goes in the top mounting looks worn out. I have been looking or one can get such parts separately. Any input on that would be most appreciated.
