intermittent no audio sound

recently i have an intermittent problem, when i turn the radio, or c/d player on the nav screen lights up and functions properly, but i don't get any sound. it doesn't matter if i use the wheel controls, or the knob control on the nav unit. after a while the sound starts and everything is fine. a few starts later and it happens again. i'm thinking loose connection, crimped wire, or amplifier problem. anyone have any ideas? i would bring it do the dealer, but don't know if it would throw a code as it's very intermittent. any suggestions?
thanks,
2004 cl600.

It could be a fiber issue too. I had a piece of fiber that was causing this years back. Diagnosed with SDS, further verified with the fiber ring tester. Replaced the piece of fiber and the issue went away.

If it is Fiber, it is nearly impossible to diagnose without the proper tools.

Does the MUTE+1+3 trick get you into the COMAND admin mode? I don't remember if this trick works after 2003.

If it does, I can make a few suggestions on some things to try.
