Question Right signal reflector lamp

I have a 2000 CL500 and the right turn signal reflector bulb is out. The dealer is saying the entire casing, mirror and all must be replaced. This seems a bit extreme for just a bulb!. Anyone know of a way to just change the bulb?
Thanks

If you talking about the side view mirror, your dealer is correct. The housing needs to be replaced as you can not but the LED amber blinker as a separate part.

That's amazing!! So everything the amber bulb goes out it I'm going to have to replace the entire unit just for the bulb. Does that only apply to the 2000 models? Who would you recommend for best prices on that part? Also , I would assume it comes in the correct color when I provide VIN. This is my first time using parts without ordering from dealer.

Is this applicable ?
Heres how you do it. You need to remove the mirror glass,do this by folding in downward as far as it will go.At the top section behind the glass there is a small metal clip, unclip it & remove the glass. Now remove the motor-usually 3 t10 torx screws. Now you can access the 2 t10 torx screws that hold in the signal lens.remove it & replace, done. Hope that helps.

The amber portion is actually a LED strip which should last a long time baring failure.

I didn't realize you were talking about a W215 pre mid life facelift (2000-2002) I should have looked at your profile more carefully, my bad.

2003+ needed a whole new housing. For 2000-2002 you used to be able to purchase just the LED unit. I'm assuming that from what your adviser told you maybe this has changed. I would certainly double check that however.

I owned a 2001 before my 2003 and had a rock crack the led strip. At that time I was able to purchase just the clear LED strip for my mirror assembly.

As for housing color (if it comes to that), if it works like other body colored parts (door handles, etc), some popular colors come pre painted fromt he factory. Some colors however do not and you get a part that needs to be painted.

PM me your VIN and I can check EPC for you to see what parts are available, etc.

I wonder if I have an electrical issue. Are the door locks switch, trunk release and right reflector signal on the same fuse?

I had the problem on my 2001 model. Ordered the bulb, listed on eBay, installed it and it works fine. Don't always listen to your dealer.

Thanks Calgary, that's why I'm on here now trying to get some advice. How do I break it down to get to the led strip to replace it?

There are someplace detailed instructions/photos on how to remove the mirror housing - but I cannot locate them right now. One description I found says: The clip that attaches the mirror housing to the mirror are located in different places: 3+ release clip is in the outer upper corner, and the 02 release clip is on the inner bottom.

Hi there Calgary, saw you had this same problem. I can't find the bulb number anywhere. Right side turn, mirror bulb for my 2001 CL500. Could you reference your records and send me the bulb number, please?
Thanks in advance

My 2004 CL500 has separately replaceable LED strips which can be removed from the mirror casings. Mirror needs to be adjusted (in my case) so that you can access the metal clip which is at the top of the housing. Press it with a narrow bladed screwdriver and the housing pulls straight off the door. LED strip clips out. Recently replaced the LHS strip which was about £55.00 from MB dealership.

talk about resurrecting a dead thread. You can buy the LED lights for the mirror housings on ebay. I changed out mine and it was easy to do. I don't get any codes either.
