CL500 Electronic ghosts...

Hey all!

I have a small problem and these are the symptoms:

* Overhead Control Panel without power
* Key remote receiver dont work but i can lock with key close to door IR
* Rainsensor dead, interval works though
* Setting of the interior mirror and the dimming of it doesnt work
* Sunroof, no action at all
* Interior lights and makeup mirrors dead
* Rear sensor for parking dead, see when in reverse http://500sec.com/rooflights_rear/
* Rollo rear window is dead, did work until yesterday although all else was dead but dead now
* Stereo sound weak as if no booster engaged, no extended sound system.
* Fanfare horn not working
* White text in comand for "brake lining", but pads are good

I have my own theory and just would like for more of you guys out there to agree or disagee with me so that I can start to dig at the correct place for this problem.

Weak battery or charging system. Maybe relays?

Checked and cleared out OK! Battery recharged (trickle and maintenance) many times since then.

My theory points toward a specific SAM (Signal Accuisition Module) that might be corroded or dead..

What do you all say, am I on the right track here?

SAM and Overhead panel module. Have a full diagnostic run via the STAR DAS workshop computer.

Does anyone (Skylaw perhaps...) dare to point at a specific SAM?

I have my eyes on a suspected culprit

@ awiner: Overhead panel module, if the SAM that this one runs through is dead this will be affected right..

Quite possibly. The problems you noted are handled in various modules including the OHP, Rear SAM and front SAM. This could also be an issue with the Central Gateway.

if i'm not mistaken, most if not all of the issues you posted have electrical circuits with fuses in the fuse panel in the backseat. perhaps your fuse panel is shorted out or flooded or something like that.

if everything with that fuse panel checks out i would go on to inspect both the x4/10 terminal fuse block underneath the passenger carpeting (search online for "w215 hidden fuses" for the location)

there's also a similar terminal fuse block to the x4/10 by the battery in the back (on the passenger side rear wheelwell to be specific) that has some fuses inside that could blow. simply remove the top half of the black box cover (carefully) and use a fuse checker to check for continuity

if you have a bad fuse in one of these panels sometimes the only thing to do is to buy the whole fuse panel block. remove yours from your car to source the part number imprinted on the fuse block and order another. they aren't too expensive

edit: if all these free, at home checks don't work then i would go to a dealer or indy to have the car hooked up to see if one of the SAM units isn't working how it's supposed to
