Anybody Really knowledgeable of can-bus and 2000 cl audio system?
Let me start out by saying this is my first post, and will probably be a long one. lol I have recently acquired a 2000 cl500. I am a professional mobile electronics installer by trade, so to say that my only disappointment in the cl is the audio system. So I have decided to take on a new project.
project goals
1.) Add USB audio/ipad functionality.
2.) Add more modern gps
3.) Add Bluetooth functionality
4.) do away with the d2b system
5.) of course improve sound quality
6.) keep as much of the stock functionality as possible.
So after doing a lot of research here's what I have came up with. I can go to a double din by using the radio trim from a 2003 and up with the command 2.0 system. once I have acquired the trim, I have found double din installation kits for the 2003 s/cl, but I dont just want to stick any double din in there. Here's where it gets tricky. I would like to keep steering wheel controls(easy), but I also want to keep cluster messaging as well. So here's where I need help. To my understanding dynavin makes units that makes all this possible, but not for the s/cl class. I'm looking at a dynavin w210 which is for an e-class, reason being is size wise its a standard double din so I'm being told. It has can-bus functionality.
So here's my questions:
1.) Are there different versions/revisions of can-bus between w210 and w215 in the 2000 model? I was told by a dynavin dealer that both w210 and w215 were 1.5-212 have not been able to find any info on this on forms or google.
2.) If I replace radio trim with trim from 2003 and up with top buttons already installed will the harness for abc, locks, etc be plug and play?
3 I have yet to find the wood trim in my exact color from the 2003+ model, does anybody know what this color wood is called?(will try and attach picture below)

Did you ever get this figured out? I saw that someone replied saying that you could take a newer bezel with the upper buttons and it be plug and play. Is that true? I have a 2001 CL600 and I too would like to update the center console with the newer one, but when I look at the buttons on ebay the plugs do not appear to be the same. Let me know. Thanks!
