It allows blue tooth functionality when docked in the factory equipped optional phone system.

I have it in my CL65 and it works flawlessly with my Blackberry Z10. Well worth it.

Does it require the phone in the car to be activated? Or does it simply allow you to use the speakers in the car with your current cell phone?

You'll have to pair the phone to it and it works through your speakers in the car.

So just to be clear, I will NOT need to have the cellular service active in the car to use it correct?

Correct. To be clear, the cell service is phone specific, not related to the vehicle. You do not need to have the service activated on the original phone that came with the vehicle. It gets replaced with the Bluetooth puck and used with aftermarket phone via Bluetooth.

There is a button with a phone if I remember right but no phone. Just 2 buttons. Is this right?

No. There was an actual phone and dock under the arm rest. If the phone is missing the dock will still be there. That's where this unit plugs into.

Sounds as if you DO NOT have the factory phone option.

Nope. That's the old phone setup. The newer ones look different.

That figures. Please share if you know where they can still be purchased and for how much. Thanks!

They can be found used from time to time on Ebay. Mercedes stopped selling them (for the v60 cradle) a couple years back and the supply has been dry.

BMW used the identical unit. Better price on eBay for the BMW unit, versus Mercedes unit. (More of them available, I suppose)

Do you have a link to the eBay website or the actual part name or number?

Mercedes
eBay.com

Search for the term v60 Bluetooth and both Mercedes and BMW units will show up
They sell from $200-400
