Went looking for a CLK550. Found a CL600.

I've been looking at picking up a CLK550 coupe for a while now. I'm a single guy with a nasty hot rod habit. In fact, I've already looked into the Renntech ECU for a CLK.

Today, I stumbled upon a 2005 CL600 that is absolutely gorgeous. They're asking $19k.
It's got 75k miles and while it isn't day-one fresh it is one of the nicest preowned cars I've seen. It runs and drives perfectly. The only real flaw on the exterior is a bit of curb rash on the right rear wheel. I looked over the car very carefully (I've spent 6 years in a body shop) and could not detect ANY signs of body damage. Even the front bumper cover (sports package) was free of parking curb and driveway rash.
Inside, it needs (surprise!) a cup holder. I assume the white clips behind the seat switch wood trim are bad because both sides are a bit loose. The left and right reading lamps do not work and the release buttons for the center console lid are missing.
All the options appear to work properly.

I know about possible costly coil packs and ABC gear.
I am very familiar with these cars but never owned one. In fact, the guys at the car lot were surprised at my diligence in inspection and knowledge of the car.

This is an absolutely gorgeous black on black car.

Are you guys more likely to talk me into buying the CL600 or steer me back towards the CLK550 coupe?

If you are a hot rod nut, the bi-turbo 600 is for you. It has a lot more potential than the CLK550 but it will be a lot more expensive to maintain. Just be ready for the repair costs because they can be pretty sickening.

My last bi-turbo project was a wee bit bigger.
It's an old 1965 Plymouth with a 440 (7.2 liter) V8.

It has a touch of the Benz...

Just like BlownV8 said, the CL is very expensive to repair. The ABC alone will cost you more than the motor you have in your Plymouth. If you can stomach that type of expense, go for it. If that scares you, get the CLK.

cl600
hey, if you can do that kind of work the abc shouldn't be a problem. if you go to the dealer it will cost a lot. if you have an indie the cost will be greatly reduced. if you can do the work yourself you can get rebuilt strutts for $500, accumulators are about $300, you can have the lines redone at a hydraulics shop cheaply, and you can buy a new pump for i believe about $1500, get a rebuilt, or used one for a lot less and if you want rebuild the pump yourself. there are instruction in this section. all in all the cl600 is an unbelievable car and it's hard to think of another car i'd rather own. i say get it checked out with a star system and if all goes well go for it.
