2001 cl500 ecu

Daniel:

I'm considering purchasing a 2001 cl500 that the current owner claims does not run because the ECU drain plugged and the ECU got wet.

Do you have any experience with something like this? Could it just be an ECU problem or could there be other electronics shorted due to the wetness? Where is the ECU located? I understand that, to change the ECU, the new one must be flashed with the VIN. Is that something you could do?

thanx

bob

When a cl gets water damage it's through the reed valve usually . When this happens the ecu can get wet , but more commonly several other electronics do too. Most notably the rear SAM and associated wiring running under passenger seat

It's very unlikely the damage is just to the ecu

I greatly appreciate your response. I did find it curious that the owner isn't getting the car fixed. It's got 135k mes but looks to be in very good condition. Think I'll pass on this one.

Thanx again
