ESP Malfunction after car has been "sitting" for a while
I did not drive the CL for over a month and when I came back, it started right away but with "ESP Malfunction" which won't go away. Just before I parked it, I had replaced the throttle body, accelerator pedal, steering angle sensor and brake light switch. After those repairs, car drove without any issues. After it has been sitting for a while (month and a half) the ESP message is back.
Also, I noticed that 12V outlet is not working
Battery voltage is at 11.9V. When I put the car in Dyno mode, battery voltage is reported at startup as 9.8V (which is most certainly too low), then jumps to 12.1 or so. I am not even sure if 11.9V is "enough" but the car starts nonetheless.
Now the question: is it safe to use the portable battery booster to charge the battery? Is there a way to complete a "reset" beyond turning the steering wheel all the way to the left and then to the right?
Aside from having the trickle charger connected to maintain the battery (I have the solar one but this winter has been gloomier than usual making the solar panel not as effective), is disconnecting the battery during prolonged "storage" periods recommended for the CL?
Thank you,
S.

After numerous "resets" with the steering wheel (left-right) and idling a car for a few minutes at a time over the past two days, today I was able to start the car without ESP error and drive it for 50 miles. Then I stopped, started again, got the error again, turned it off, waited a bit, turned it on and the error was gone.
When the error is gone, car drives without any issues.
I still have the "check engine" error but don't know the code yet. Will try to stop by at the local indy today or tomorrow.
Apparently I need to have my own personal code reader to handle this beast
. Which code reader is recommended for 2003 CL600?
Which device can reset "check engine" code?
I also need to dig out a reliable voltmeter to check the voltage at the battery because indicator (when I switch over to the dyne mode) still shows 12.8 or so. It is going up! LOL

After clearing the codes and pressing the ESP button on the dashboard on and off half a dozen times, the ESP Malfunction did not re-occur. The error was related to throttle valve actuator but I have a brand new throttle body.
I have read about many different scenarios with ESP malfunction here on the forum and it seems that the issue is just part of the Ghost in the Machine.
Clearing the codes seems to help with the "reset". Maybe the voltage got a little below the threshold and threw the system off.
I love the CL but I do not like Mercedes thinking. It is so ridiculous that ESP error disables the car and that there is no conclusive resolution for it.
I want to buy a code scanner which can clear all codes, including ESP codes. Which model should I get for 2003 CL600?
