Toothpaste for headlight restoration

Not sure if I'm late figuring this one out, but I figured I'd share. One of my headlights had some yellowing from oxidization. I saw a video on YouTube claiming toothpaste works. Well I tried it and low and behold it works. Colgate and a terry cloth rag. Rinsed it clean and the results are like day and night. Wish I had of taken a before and after shot, but if you have this problem, give it a try.

After you ciean them, to prevent from yellowing again get some clear vinyl wrap (3m or Avery is best but there are tons in eBay ) and use a hair dryer to vinyl wrap them in clear film.

It also protects them from Rock chips and only costs about $15 for the clear wrap material

I wrapped my w220 sedan lights in light blue vinyl

Tusabes, thanks, I wouldn't have thought of that, but I'll definitely do that. Peter Ubers, you gotta love YouTube right. I was doubtful, but pleasantly surprised by the results.

Heck yeah YouTube is amazing, makes the world smaller yet

I used 3m restore kit to make them essentially flawless from a thick yellow cloud and two years later they are a thick yellow cloud again

I have turtle wax polishing paste I imagine this will work as well if not better than the toothpaste

Yeah polishing will only last 3-6 months unless you wrap them, that's why I wrap mine . The wrap lasts 2+ years depending on whether you garage the car and your local climate . When the wrap yellows you can just peel it off and rewrap without needing to do an extensive Polish , just a light touch up and rewrap

All great tips. I've heard of brasso, never seen it but anything can be bought online. I heard the toothpaste trick may only last a few months as well so I think tusabes is spot on with wrapping them to protect them.
