Steering wheel buttons
Poked around the net and found a few threads, one of them may have been here. For those not in the know, it's a soft-touch coating Mercedes puts on the buttons that breaks down over the years.
Anyway, I'm working on mine so thought I'd post my experiences here.
1. Do NOT use rubbing alcohol! lol It will remove the grime but will take the black off with it.(To be fair some of the black was already gone)
2. As others have said, Goo Gone (or similar) works well. I found that if I warmed the Goo Gone before use it worked much easier.
3. A stiff toothbrush and toothpicks help to get between cracks.
3. On the buttons I didn't ruin, I put a light coat of 303 Aerospace Protectant on them.
To solve the issues with the ruined ones, I ordered some vinyl decals which are supposed to look OEM if done right. I just got them and will post an update when completed.
These are the ones I ordered.
