@#$% Rattle! How to remove rear cup holder

You've got an annoying rattle coming from your back seat arm rest. Sometimes it even ruins your music when the bass notes cause a buzzing sound to come from there. You put up with it for a while until you can stand it no longer!

You climb into the back seat area and begin your search... AHA! There's something loose and rattling inside the armrest! If only you could remove the pop-out cup holder you could see what's in there and get it out...

I searched all over for how to do this and found that several others had asked the same question and no one answered.
So here goes:

1) First open the padded lid.

2) Extend the cup holder to the open position.

3) Remove the small 'coin tray' at the front of the storage area in the arm rest. To do this, press firmly on a corner of the side padded area at the front of the arm rest as shown in picture, while simultaneously lifting the end of the coin tray.

This will release the catch at that end and then it can be lifted the rest of the way out.

4) Now you have full access to the hidden area behind the cup holder and can remove the offending loose items.

In my case, it was a broken cup holder opener gear. If your cup holder no longer pops open on its own, then this may be your problem too. Or maybe some coins fell down into there, or your kids squeezed a toy into there.

5) You can now replace the coin tray by just snapping it down into place. The tabs on the coin tray must lock into the slots in the sides of the arm rest.

6) Did I say I would tell you how to remove the cup holder? Well I lied. You still do not know how to remove the cup holder. But you probably don't really need to anyway because you just wanted to git rid of that @#$% Rattle!

7) Now enjoy your music at full volume, or your peace and quiet.
