Engine Mount Replacement-- How Necessary?

Hello All,

On my 02 CL500, my engine/trans mounts apparently are all collapsed.
Repair cost is $1200.

Only symptom would be slight vibration at idle with brake applied.
Otw, wouldn't know they need replacement-- car shifts fine and nothing strange upon acceleration, etc.

I know broken mounts could lead to a broken radiator hose, axle shafts, etc.

But is that a rare event or somewhat possible/likely occurrence?
Any thoughts on how likely I could have damage if i waited several months?

THANKS in ADVANCE!

Engine mounts

I wouldn't give it a second thought.."Change them!" Differed maintenance on these cars is the most expensive maintenance when not done. The tolerances are very tight on the V12 engines. I think you are playing with fire.

you can do it yourself
and you can find the mounts new on old stock sometimes on ebay
I paid both 150 $ new a pair from ebay broker
you can wait for a good occasion your engine mounts don't go to metal on metal when the hydrolic fluid part colapsed
it is still some rubber on rubber
but think about replacing them within the next 60 days

Thanks, guys.

Looks like i'll be replacing these suckers soon.
Been contemplating the DIY route but seems like i'd need a lift or engine crane, both of which i don't have.

When I bought my CL500 it needed engine mounts, All was generally okay but if you gave it full throttle you could literally hear and feel the entire drivetrain jolt against the firewall (I’m guessing it was the firewall), if you need any further convincing, just give your car a lot of throttle and I’m sure you’ll prioritize your engine mounts again lol. I had my indie mechanic replace the mounts as I hadn’t started wrenching on this car yet

so, I do drive the car pretty aggressively (car has yellow speed coilovers and handles extremely well) and haven't noticed any strange movements (although admittedly never have gone full throttle).
I've raced cars at the club amateur level so have an OK feel for car balance and movement and nothing seems unusual.
as mentioned, other than a slight vibration at stop lights, don't notice any other symptoms.
but i'll be getting the mounts replaced as everyone suggests.

thanks!
