05 CL65 AMG - Key fob not working

Key fob is not able to lock/unlock/open trunk or start the car. When I insert the key into the ignition it doesn't let me turn the key. I get a red LED on the fob when I press the buttons, and the infrared at the end of the fob is working (used my phone camera to verify it's emitting infrared). I checked all the fuses and couldn't find any that were blown. I tried to synchronize the fob with the car, no change. Does anyone have an idea of what the issue is? Seems like the ignition module or some kind of antenna that communicates with the fob is broken.

It wasn't the key. Turned out to be a faulty alarm in the drivers side front wheel well.

I am having this problem intermittently with my 2003 CL600 - did your fault appear suddenly or was the key working every now and then on the doors etc?
Any help appreciated as this has been going on for months and makes my car unusable.

The problem occurred suddenly in my case. I never had a problem and then one day the key wouldn't work at all. It was even difficult for Mercedes to figure out because of no blown fuses and no diag code messages. Somehow the alarm went bad and that's all it was.
