don't pull the first plate off, just make a bigger hole in the first plate
it's trash anyway. then later remove it the correct way from inside
there is a space between the plate and the trunk

Awesome! Can't thank you enough for this guide! Can I make a small enough hole to use a needle nose? Then maybe the lichens plate can hide the repair? I'll start small and see if I can get away with that.

OK so I got a chance to work on the car. I took about a 1" paddle bit and made a hole in both surfaces all the way through. If you want to make one hole.... make it just under the top of the license plate and DIRECTLY inline with the MB emblem on the trunk lid. As it turns out you guys and my indie were correct the connection between manual push button and the lock mechanism wasn't good. No way it just fell out some genius left it loose. Oh well.

Now I did disconnect the battery for a few minutes and also discoed the pump itself. No joy. I did get the red trunk light on the trunk switch but that could just be the indicator that the trunk was open. Still nothing from the locks. I have an exclamation mark on the PSE line of the STAR diag laptop. I am going get it to my indy so they can see why it's not getting power. Tomorrow I may open the pump assembly and see if I can jump 12V to get it to light up. Im really thinking it's some kind of power issue before the pump. Can anyone point me in the direction of a basic electrical tester that I can buy? That is a huge hole in my knowledge.

maybe a picture of what you did will help other people no ?
don't forget that you'll have to change the lock and get it with the matching blade
you MUST be able to open that in the future

I have an exclamation mark on the PSE line of the STAR diag laptop
So click on the line and read the Fault

When I try to read the fault it gives me a no communication error. I did reconnect the push rod for the lock so I am using the push button successfully no problem. Sorry about the huge images. Different upload option from the trunk pic. Could there de some kind of anti theft interference happening?

If you think it's some kind of power issue then get a multimeter and check for voltage at the PSE pump wire harness

listen, you must have EPC WIS ASRA and starfinder or keep guessing

if you have that use it
if not, and you want it, PM me

another point, with your Chinese modified Xentry, did you try to enter other modules ?

if yes, your Xentry is OK
if not, PM me, you need a software repair
the Cal error is standard bug with Chinese crap soft

So to wrap up this post:

The PSE pump motor was locking up. The trunk lock actuator bar that physically opened the latch was disconnected by a prior "tech" therefor using the key was not opening the trunk. The above pic shows to drill a large enough hole ( I went 1" paddle bit ) behind the license plate directly inline under the benz star. You will be able to use needle nose to open the trunk. I just duct taped the hole and put the plate back on. I sent the PSE to be overhauled by a well reviewed Ebay provider. Waiting for the pump to come back. Ive been living with no PSE for a while. Sucks.

I agree, having no pse pump for a while sucked

if you need to lock the car in the meantime, you can Use the summer convenience feature(holding unlock while pointed at the infrared sensor) to roll the windows up and down to lock and unlock the car. This is what I did. And likewise you can have your passenger reach in to open the door handle, if you have a passenger
