Ok, so the wonky head unit in the pre-2003 W215's is rubbish. I would like to convert mine to a standard double din head unit. Yes, I know it's work modifying the center console cover. I'd like to know if anyone has done it and their results. Yes, I know about google...nothing of any merit shows up. I'm really specifically looking for the wiring and what wires are used for the head unit's connection. The modifications to the console are not too daunting in my opinion.

NB: the only thread here has nothing of merit as well.

Here is the kit to install a 2din in w215 I got one but have not used it yet. Auction says they only have 1 left. Seems like a good deal for $30 bucks

Thank you, but that won't work on 02 and older due to the old COMAND head unit.
