2003 CL600 CooLing Fan Fix or Reoplacement????

I was just informed by my mechanic that after replaceing the radiator hose , then testing and then informing me I need a radiator replacement the testing now hes telling me I need a radiator fan assembly replacement as its not working.He quoted me $1500 for the part plus even more labor . My ? is cant the electronic module alone be replaced instead of $1500 for the whole assembly? I'm also reading now that there are two of these assemblies on the cooling system....Yikes!

Any suggestions or information is appreciated.
