Question CL500wheels & tire fitment

I can purchase stock 17" wheels from a 2001 CL500 with Michelin 225/55/17's all like new. My 98 CL500 has 16" stock wheels with Michelin 235/60/16's.
Someone told me thay changing tire & wheel sizes on a Mercedes could cause transmission problems and possible premature failure. Is this true?

I don't think that's right with your transmission being affected.

If you change the overall diameter of your wheel and tire combination you are effectively changing the axle ratio and this will have an effect on the cars computer calculations. The computer assumes a stock tire and wheel size to calculate speed and other variables based on wheel rotation.

A larger size raises your "axle ratio" and slows the car.....

So... what does that all mean? Am I going to screw up my car?

The system allows you to change the size

The Command system has a screen - I believe it is under the navigation section - that allows you to tell it what size tire you are riding.

I increased mine from 17" to 18"; changed the size in the computer and have not had any trouble.
