Trunk lift gas shocks

My trunk would not lift properly. I ordered two lift gas shocks, one left, one right. I installed them and now the trunk won't close all the way, When I push the trunk close button, the trunk closes about 7/8s of the way,
stops and re-opens. I checked, and I have the correct part

based on my vin#. Can anyone help me sort this out?

Just a thought, but make sure that they are on the correct sides. The end that attaches to the trunk lid is offset, and when installed on the correct side, the strut would be slightly below the centerline of the mounting stud. If you got them reversed, they would both be above the mounting stud, and might prevent closing. One other thought is that you may need to have the trunk "normalized". This is done with the computer at a dealer or indy. I am in the process of replacing mine, and awaiting my delivery of the STAR system to see if I can do it myself....

I had the same problem. I ordered the s shocks from AutoHauz AZ. They were showing the same part number, I.e., ending in “336”. Ordered them, installed them and had the same proble, as you. Looked at FCPEuro and they showed the right shock ended in 436, and the left side ended in 336.Had to return one shock and ordered a “436”. While waiting for it, I put one of the new “336” shocks on the left, and the original old shock back on the right side. Fixed the 7/8 opening. I’m now waiting for the correct right “436” shock.

I don’t see why replacing trunk shocks would need “normalized”. Guess I’ll find out when I get the correct right side shock.

As it turned out I had a vacuum line leak and a failing air pump. After those were replaced all works well. By the way, it is key to get the right & left shocks in their correct position. The trunk won't close if they are switched.
