CL55 vs. CL600/65

Is it fair to assume the CL55 would be significantly more reliable?

Anyone familiar with Hoovies' CL65 which had an oil leak that required removed of the engine to repair? As much as I want the V12 and would be willing to spend some coin on coil packs, having to remove the engine to replace an inevitable oil leak is quite the dealbreaker.

Thoughts on this? CL600/65 oil leak inevitable? CL55 less troublesome?

The CL55 should be more reliable due to a few factors. The V12 bi-turbo is an amazing engine but it is a giant heat sink. The ABC lines absolutely roast under the hood so you will have more ABC issues with the V12. The updated V12 coil packs seem to be way more reliable so that's not a huge concern. If you can swing a newer CL63 with the M157, that's the one I would recommend.

Interesting about higher temps with the V12 and ABC lines - first I heard of that but makes sense especially considering these cars are 15+ years old.

I like the C215

C215 CL 600 2003
Hi!

Did you buy a C215? Its a beautiful and elegant car that will keep its value.
I have had all 3(600, 55 and 65). 600 and 65 is very similar while I think 55 has a sportier sound.
If you buy a low mileage car with no faulty codes or issues you might very well have many troublefree years. Its a Mercedes after all.
My best advise is to go for a low mileage car and dont let the motor decide. There should not be a big difference in reliability, but more of a coincidence whom fails first if it even fails in your ownership. Go for C215. ABC suspension is a fantastic invention. Comfort for a king!
