2002 cl500 trunk
Just changed the struts on my trunk lid and now the lid will not close all the way. Before changing the struts, the trunk unlocked and locked fine. Now, when depressing the close button, the trunk lid swings down (close) but stops about 3” from fully closing and locking. The only way I can close the trunk is by removing one strut and lifting and closing the trunk manually. Once down, the trunk locks automatically. It also unlocks automatically, but has to be lifted manually.
Any ideas?

Just a guess, but the struts are left and right side- make sure they are not reversed. If you look at the strut on the right side( looking forward), the attachment at the trunk lid should place the strut slightly below the attachment point ( attachment is offset). If you have them reversed, they may be sitting above the attachment points rather than below, and this might be enough to block closure??

According to AutoHauzAz, 2157500336 should work on both sides, I.e., 2157500336 & 2157500436 are interchangeable. I didn’t realize the different part numbers until after I ordered, and attempted to install, 2157500336 on both sides. I think I’ll return the one “336” and order a “436” shock.
