1999 CL500 200k miles suspension
Hello all,
Looking at a 1999 one-owner CL500 in the Netherlands. It has 200 miles on the clock and I don't think the air suspension has ever been replaced. The owner said the ABC suspension works very well and he has replaced two ball joints.
Would you risk it? Surely at 200k miles the suspension will be on its way out? I'm would be surprised if there are no leaks etc.....
If one corner breaks, then it's 25% of the car's value to fix it.......
Worth the risk?

How does the car run? Does he have maintenance records? The worse that can happen is you end up converting to coil overs for $2k. Factor that into the current value and his asking price.

From my position, any car w/200k miles is a risk. Saying that, take into account the price you can buy it for, add in any work you know must be done, and compare that with the current car value. One thing you do know. With 200k miles now, future value will be limited. So, basically, it comes down to “how important is it , to me, to own/drive a CL500? I would check the mtce. records to see what, if any, work was done on the ABC. Check to see if, and when, the system has been flushed. If the system has been flushed, a number of the OEM components replaced, and it’s functioning fine, wouldn’t be a big issue. Again, all depends on the price.
