Reverse in any gear selector position

Reverse in any gear selector position
My 2004 CL500 wants to go backwards regardless of what the gear shift selector position is in.
When I start the car it immediately goes into reverse. And this is with the shift lever in Park. I can move the lever to any position but it makes no difference it still goes backwards (reverse).
I am perplexed to say the least. One day the car drives as it should the next morning all I get is reverse,
Please help this is my daily driver and I don't have a back up at the moment except for a rental.
Thank you for any help you can give me.

There is a mechanical connection between the shifter and the transmission.
I've had one of the rubber bushings fall out on me, which caused the linkeage to disconnect
Most likely it's #27 (A2109920010)
Or #100 (A2109920010)

Shift linkage
Thank you for the schematic, that is a keeper. I took my car to my MB indie yesterday. I was afraid that it was going to be a faulty TCM but he said no it was the shifter itself. Crossed fingers, that would be less costly than a TCM replacement.
