Rear Subframe Bushings
Few things that really helped. Just search for them
- 911 Motorsports 4 Point Jack Adapter - This thing is super useful. Keeping the whole subframe stable on a floor jack because of the four points of support. Its just over $300, which is much cheaper than a visit to the ER when you drop something on your hand or foot.
- Orion Motor Tech Bushing Press Kit, 27pc Pull and Press Sleeve Kit for Most LCV HGV Engine Cars Vehicles - not all the cups fit, but you can use the threaded bars and mix and match things - Around $100
- 2-Jaw Gear Puller 12inches 2 Claw Gears Puller for Removal of Pulley Flywheel Bearing, Puller Tool Separate Lifting Device - just another way to get the bushings out. - Around $35
- Big PCV connector - $6
Its a lot of hammering, pulling, pressing. I think I spent two days getting everything out.
Two of the bushings came out fairly easily.
The other two broke apart when I tried to push them out so I had to hammer them out. If you can press them out, press them out, but if the rubber is bad, they will just break apart.
I don't think burning would have helped. The rubber parts were easy to cut out, but the bushings have a metal sleeve around them, so fire would not have helped.
If you can get in there and bend the sleeve, they will come out.
Did paint over the nicks on the subframe. But in the end everything looked good, and its not as if I will ever see it again. I am not doing this again in 20 years.
Let me tell you, when I got the last bushing in there, it felt like I had just climbed Everest.
