ownership costs...

does anyone have an idea as to the cost of ownership (non warranty) for maintenance on a cl500/55/600? one of these will be my next purchase and i was talking to a salesman and asked why the cl 600's are almost the same cost to buy as a cl500 (used). he indicated people tended to shy away from the v12 for maintenance costs. is this true??

The V12 depreciates the fastest and I was told the same as you about the maint cost. Why not just buy a CPO with Starmark warranty? The only reason we purchased a new SL600 was because my wife never had a brand new car.

Today, I got rid of my '03 SL500 and traded for an '04 CL500 . We don't need two SLs and the price was right for a fully loaded car. I'll keep it for two years and wait for the new body to arrive.

Whatever you decide, just make sure that you get an '03 or newer with DVD Nav. Also, the '03 and newer twin turbo is much nicer than the older ones.

There is an average of a 10K price difference between a 600 and 500 if all else is equal. The 600 depreciates more because not many people are willing to pay a lot more for the extras you get. The old MB V12 had many more problems than the V8. From what I have been able to find out the '00 and newer V12 is as reliable as any of the V8's. I agree it is worth in most cases buying a starmark car because of the warranty. On this car nothing is cheap to fix.

I think the 600 is a much better value used than a 500.
