is tuning tasteless (vote) ?

After seing so many tuned cars in this forum (In Europe it is totally uncommon to tune a brand new CL or S Class) I had to post the poll.

My personal view is that tuning is totally tasteless and shows an absolute lack of class by the car's owners, probably showing certain roots he or she thinks are being hidden by the purchase of an expensive ride.

I am sure some people will have a differing opinion, hence the poll.

Well, it depends on the level of tuning. Personally, upgrading with tasteful wheels and possbily a sportier exhaust is within' realm to being acceptable to the nature of the automobile. However, extravagent bodywork coupled with chrome monstrosities aimed at achieving the "bling" look is money poorly spent and taste in question. But, to each his own.

You have a point, HLG600. Nevertheless most tuning packages I have seen on this forum go way beyond what you describe.

That's funny, considering almost all of the Benz tuners are from Europe, I dont think it is that uncommon to tune a new CL or S in Europe. It's your car so you do whatever you want with it. I dont see a prob with it

Finally someone speaks out on the tasteless aftermarket add ons to these beautiful cars. If you think the tuner pics are bad here, you should check out the CLS forums - yuck.

It depends on the tuner and what is being done exactly. Most of them are awful IMO. There is nothing beyond a nice set of wheels and/or the AMG package needed for the S or CL. All these oversize wheels, scoops and wholes in the body along with a dozen foglights is ridiculous.

Blame the tuners...not the people. Blame Brabus for having the 4 fog light or 6 exhaust tip mods.....people see it's Brabus and figure it's awesome looking. I am pretty particular about no longer modding my cars with anything but OEM stuff (minor things such as updating taillights maybe). All my cars have big rims too, but I am younger and maybe one day will grow out of that stage. I already stopped with the chrome and went with black rims. That being said, 20's are not that big size-wise anymore on cars/trucks. The car makers make way too big of a wheelbase for such small rims they put on.

No I don't mean 20's I mean people who try to stuff wheels that are clearly too big and make the car ride like a dump truck. I've seen R129 SLs with 22 inch wheels and when the axle broke the wheel took the whole front fender off with it. Ridiculous.

I feel that if done right, it is beatiful. I also feel that with AMG package and 19's, both look decent enough. However I always seem to get rims on all my cars, since here in LA there is an abundance of $$$ cars/MB's and its hard to know which ones your in the parking lot sometimes...lol
