I have been in MB since the late '80's. 1st S was '94; been in 'em 'till a yr. ago, when purchased my first CL.

March 7, the passenger seat SRS blew, for no apparent reason. Took to dlr. on the 8th. They found the sensor faulted and a new harness, not buckle, was needed. MB corporate could not find a harness for my VIN. The car was held hostage; daily "updates" from Stuttgart followed. For wks.

No harness was available. None. They finally two wks. later said a harness might be available May 9th. MB insisted the car not be driven, due to liability on MB's part.

The gripe is my Cl was not available to me to drive, because a less than four yr. old car, still under factory warranty, did not have a common part available. Cars get t-boned, seat belts need replacing. I wasn't needing some nondescript bushing or decal or whatever.

The dlrshp. finally convinced MB I deserved my car. MB corporate finally agreed a harness of a different color could be installed, but the dlrshp. had to suck up the cost of the incorrect colored harness. MB wouldn't shoulder couple hundred dollars.

That posture spks. volumes about how MB caring about buyers has deteriorated, imo. Add to that every time I meet a Chrysler on the road, it looks like what I am driving.

I, obviously, am venting. Thanks for your patience But, I so would like to tell a non-gumby MB rep; someone who could have an impact and effect change at MB, how I feel.

I totally understand your frustration but to compare a Mercedes to a Chrysler after 06 is really rather far fetched, wouldn't you say?

out of curiosity, when did the Diamler/ Benz "merger" or whatever it was end?

I think you totally misunderstand. Mercedes owned Chrysler not the other way around. Chrysler was draining off DB resources. Mercedes parts didn't have Chrysler manufactured parts on them they had Mercedes parts on Chrysler's. The company wasn't financially what it is today and beginning with the 2007 ( S and CL ) cars, MB vowed to be the best quality built cars in MB history. They advertised that they would forgo quantity to produce quality.


There are no parts used on an 07-up S and CL, that were on the previous W220 and W215. These were all new cars from tip to tail.


Because of the new E and C line after the Daimler Chrysler debacle, MB started seeing massive profits. This is why you see such massive amounts of cash being thrown at all the models with major R/D being updated like never before.


Also, notice even though MB as a brand has become very deluted, the quality is actually as good any other car on the road.


Today, Mercedes is dealing with styling issues as well as inferior parts suppliers. If they would use Japanese companies instead of Siemens and the likes. The car would become something people could come to depend on.


I don't think the issue is with the build quality, as much as it has to do with the outsourced parts they use.

Good info, to be sure. But, my Chrysler reference was aimed more at what I feel is the lingering MB design impact on later/current Chrysler products. I admit I have a four design yr. old CL, so there may be greater separation now. But, seeing the grille, air dam, projector lights format on a Chrysler when meeting it on the road makes my ego (yes, it's ego) wince. Only thing missing is the MB hood ornament.

Well, you own a 12 CL and if you don't think it makes your appendage bigger, knowing your driving a 130K car then something is wrong inside your head.


To me if you own an 11-14 CL your King S **T of Terd Island. My 14 Designo CL600 is just as fine as my 2014 Bentley GT Speed and drive each one regularly.


I love knowing that 99% of the cars out there are even 1/4 as nice as my CL. It might be a model design off but they don't make the CL and for me the S Coupe not something that I aspire to own.


To me the C coupe is better looking and better proportioned but since I have owned a 600, it's hard to back down to a mass produced car that you will see coming and going.


If Chrysler cars look like a MB, that is because Chrysler is trying to achieve that look, not the other way around.

I buy my cars new and pay cash so, anytime I want to trade I'm not stuck in a car payment.


BTW, if your so unhappy with your CL550 Chrysler look alike (with all that MB tex interior), then maybe you should trade it for a car you can actually afford and not feel so bad being seen in.

Rolling18, I was thinking about ordering a GT-R. It's the only car that has an actual design element that doesn't look like the rest of the brand.


To me all the brands are starting to look alike. If and when they actually produce the DB10, that too will be in my collection.

yea the GTR is "purpose built" to destroy! and that it does VERY WELL regardless of its looks

and a few of the design elements even in the engine made it to other Nissans.. raked head/ taillights, sodium filled hollow valves for example

I just found out that they will be selling a DB11 and it's perfection!! I got the idea when I saw James Bond in, "Spectre" and I fell hard.


I just watched Motorweek and the DB11 is slated for 2017 production. I will call my salesman tomorrow and see if I can go ahead an place an order now.


This time Im going to see if I can use a color I am very partial to and have my interior done in the colors I want.


Mercedes had a color called Mystic Red and that is the color I want with a Mystic red leather with black upper dash and carpet. I think I want piano black wood finish.


I know I want the Spider wheels from the Rapid in 21's.

I would think for that kind of coin you can pretty much get what you want as far as finishes and materials...

My old c7 vette was in red called crystal red metalling with tinted clearcoat.. i loved that red as well!
