Fuel Filter Leaking

So I noticed the strong smell of gasoline in my garage when moving the car inside. I looked on the floor and didn't see any leaks so I checked beneath the driver's side passenger seat and discovered a large pool of old leaking gasoline on top of the fuel filter. Obviously gas is leaking somewhere here but the part that puzzles me is that there aren't any lines leaving the top of the filter. It is 6 bolts on top and the electrical plug. So I'm wondering where is the gas coming from? I am fine with replacing this but if it's not leaking from here I don't want to replace it for nothing. Anyone else have this problem or any insight? I'll try and post a pic as well.

Yeah ended up fixing it last night. Didn't want to wait for shipping so I bought the OEM one from the dealership and replaced. Thought it would be easier than it was, struggled a bit disconnecting the lines from the filter and spilled a good amount of gas (since the tank was full). Currently airing out the garage and trying to get rid of the smell. Luckily the gas spilled out on the underside of the car and not the interior.

how many miles on your car bro? is it a 4matic? considering your cl is an 07 im assuming it has the ABC suspension rather than the airmatic. what made it difficult? as id like some info on this job.

95k miles. Just picked it up very cheap and trying to bring it back to life. Car has a lot of potential but has some needs. Trying to track down these over-priced parts wherever I can. It does have the ABC suspension unfortunately. I used to have a CL500 with ABC and I swore I'd never do it again but I guess I'm hooked and couldn't pass up the price. And the only difficult thing about this job was separating the lines from the old filter. Basically there are 2 black square-like clips that hold the lines on and you have to pry them off without breaking them. Other than that it's an easy job. The only other issue for me was deciding how hard to ratchet down the 6 bolts. There's no torque specs that I know of so I just did them good and tight. Remember no electric tools for this job, don't want any fires.

Thanks for the heads up. I've got a few things to get to before I start doing preventive maintenance but I'l put that on the list.

No I'm talking about the fuel filter in the gas tank. See pictures above.
