Park Assist Currently Unavailable - any new information?

I took recently took possession of a 2007 CL600, and I get the "Park Assist Currently Unavailable" message and LOUD tone a lot. Basically, at every intersection, or any time I encounter another car. It's to the point that I hit the "off" button immediately after starting the car.

I have read other posts that this is a too-bad-so-sad issue, and that there may be a software update that makes the sensors "less sensitive", but I have not seen any recent posts about the issue.

Is there a way to actually turn off the Park Assist, other than hitting the button each time I get into the car? I don't find it useful, as I can't even see the rear LEDs with my rear view mirror adjusted to my liking. I have a Panamera, and it's system has audible warnings "immediately", and the MB system only has audible warnings when it is just about "too late". Big adjustment for me, so I would rather just not have it at all. I'm assuming I can't just pull a fuse, as it seems everything is connected to everything else.

Any recent updates to this issue at all? Thanks in advance.

John

Forget the FUYAA approach get the car properly diagnosed aka factory software type or equal

Yeah, it's off to an indy shop that knows their way around newer MB's, but the forums were very helpful in getting my clock set and my rear window shade functional again. But, I don't feel up to fixing the washer fluid bottle (and lack of idiot light?) nor the shimmy at 60mph. I was just hoping the Park Assist Unavailable issue had some updated info.

Thanks for reading the post. If I learn anything interesting, I'll let y'all know.

It's a bad proximity sensor. Easy to diagnose.

yea, with a diagnostic software life is easy, unless you'd like to swap them all

Yes, I have the same issue with my '07 CL600. Nice to know it's a prox sensor most likely.

Thanks for all the help. However, this has morphed into a larger problem. The Dealer/Individual I purchased the car from has not provided me a title. I paid for the car in July, and it is now November. No title. Perhaps I need to start a new thread.....

That truly sucks and you need to contact your State Attorney General's office. Make sure the seller knows.

I could tell you a long story about a former business partner of mine who did the same, in fact, he did the same to me. He was convicted of bank fraud and is in year 5 of a 13-year Federal jail sentence.

This is, like it or not, "normal." The ultrasonic sensors in the bumpers do not turn on until you have slowed down below a certain speed giving the vehicle an idea you may be preparing to park, but it is unaware you may just be stopping for a stop light. This is due to a vehicle in very close proximity that utilized the same ultrasonic frequencies and they interfere with one another. The Parktronic detects this, and determine this interference will prevent it from providing an accurate reading and distance, so it temporarily disables itself, and as most would agree goes a little to far to let you know it disabled itself temporarily due to the volume of the notification sound it generates.

The next time this happens and you are at a stop light, look in front, of you either directly, or in the lanes to the left or right of you in front, and see if you see a newer Ford product such as an Explorer, Edge, or a Lincoln. Subarus also are bad to use the same frequency. As soon as you drive off, you exceed the speed in which they operate so the turn off anyway, but you are driving at a rate of speed by then that the chances of you attempting to part are zero.

I've never had one affected by interference. On the other hand, a pebble damaged a proximity sensor and the system squawked at every red light. Judging from posts here, that's the more common situation.

So it seems there is no fix for this right? I do notice it does happen around ford brands automobiles but a couple other as well. If anyone know how to fix this please let me know. It’s can be startling when it beeps randomly. Haha!

Update, though no better information. I took the car to an independent shop who has the MB Star (sp?) software. They did a full diagnostic and found that all sensors are operating in a normal capacity. They did a quick drive in the neighborhood, but were unable to duplicate the issue, so didn't look any harder at the issue. Since they found the sensors were acting "normal", they diagnosed the issue as "outside interference". Pretty much what was stated above.
