Rear Window Scratching

On both sides of my car, I've got groves worn into the front of the rear windows from opening/closing, on the black trim piece. I've not seen another CL with this problem....anyone know what is going on? Unfortunately, it looks like I'll have to replace the windows if I want it cosmetically fixed, but need to figure out why it is happening.

You should hear a scraping noise when you roll down that window.

Try to remove the inside panel, reconnect the switch then lower the window. It would seem like there is something that is either loose inside the 1/4 panel or there is some kind of damage and it's catching that part of the window.

Good luck!

See ya

I’ve had this same exact issue on my cl since purchasing it 8 years ago, my friend who also owns a cl has it as well. I would say this is a common issue

Any idea why, though? I may be able to get this covered under my extended warranty at the dealer. My policy does not cover glass, but whatever is scrapping up the black strip at the edge of the glass is a different part, which perhaps I can get covered. My car goes in to the dealer in a week or two to get the seat massagers fixed, and I'll ask about it then. BTW, a very expensive fix at the dealer to get the massager fixed. If not, I'll take apart the side panel and see if I can isolate what is grinding on the window going up and down.

Okay, I took my rear side panel and all adjacent pieces apart, and figured it out. I'll attach a photo of what needs to come apart to get in there...practically everything. The window is scrapping on the back clip of the decorative chrome trim piece at the bottom of the window. The question is what to do about it. The grooving is so deep that I'm not sure applying some lubricant will help. Maybe use a dremel to shave off part of the clip? Any suggestions folks?

I finally got to working on this project. For those of you with this problem, it is definitely the front clip of the weather seat on the outside that is scrapping/ruining the black part on the front of the window. I bought used windows on Ebay, and replaced the front seal as well as the seal rails. I was SO close to being done and wrapped up, when I now have a window alignment problem. WIS says to adjust the window, with not much detail. I've taken almost everything apart, but can't get to the where WIS says the adjustment mechanism lies. It is a gray plastic cover behind the rear control module. Sometimes the easiest looking things are the hardest...I can't get it off, and I'll almost surely break the 15 year old plastic if I use force. Does anyone have experience aligning the rear window? Advice? There is up/down/sideways to adjust, and I'm finding this is not an amateur job, but here I am, and need to get it fixed.
