Cāble with micro USB connector inside sunglasses compartment

Hello,
When I opened the sanglasses compartment (located on the ceiling light near the rearview mirror), I discovered the presence of a cable with micro USB male connector.
Do you also have this on your CL?
I was wondering if it was an original fitment or a later adaptation, most likely to power a dashcam?
Thank you in advance for your opinions and have a nice day.

USB connectors

Imagine it’s a later fitting (post 2009). Clever though if it’s dash cam ready - could do with one now that dash cams are so cheap.

With every Mercedes I’ve had the best I count hope for was the male fitting left loose in the glovebox and that would only fit early model iPods and even then fairly useless.

You’ve prompted me to make a separate request for a power point for the rear seats of my CL500. Not even a a cigar lighter to use

Thanks Mayfairw1 for your reply.
I also think this one can power a dashcam. I'll probably try it if I find a cam with compatible power supply.

Sorry, can't help you with the most practical way to bring power to the rear seats.

On mine (year 2012), no cigar lighter in the back either (surprising for this type of luxury car).

I have never heard of a cable in the sunglasses holder. Maybe someone strung one up there for an aftermarket dashcam. Interesting idea, as it is not super hard to remove those interior parts.

Hi,
Thanks nath for the clarification. As you say, it shouldn't be too complicated to get the necessary power back into this area.
It would been so great to be able to connect a recorder and pair it with the original cam, but let's not dream. On this old 2012 CL , I doubt it'll be possible.
